Montreal-based indie rock trio Plants and Animals formed in 2004 around the talents of Warren Spicer (guitar, vocals), Matthew Woodley (drums, percussion, vocals), and Nicolas Basque (guitar, bass, vocals). The band's genre-jumping sound blends rootsy, acoustic-heavy folk and country with elements of classic and progressive rock. Their self-titled debut was released in 2005, followed by another EP, With/Avec, in 2007 and finally a full-length album, Parc Avenue, in 2008 on the Secretly Canadian label.

From the flat lake lands of southern Ontario comes a sound that is at once both rustic and contemporary, faithfully nostalgic of its pockets of wooded bush, dirt roads, farms and sprawling crop fields. Two brothers, living a continent and an ocean apart, decide to combine their love for music and their homeland?s songwriting traditions, all the while heavily inspired by the classic folk sound of 70s California. Matthew and David formed The Mighty Low in January 2009, joined by talented Swedish drummer, Adam Almqvist, and another folk loving multi-instrumentalist, Stuart Munroe. Together, they have intricately carved out a collection of songs that tells the fascinating story of their lives and a debut EP release this spring.
